This book talk about the transition from the Ottoman Empire to the modern Turkey.It mainly focus on the National movement lead by the Yong Turks from 1913 until 1950, across the period from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey .The revolution of the Yong Turks start in the late Ottoman Empire period. The book writes about how the nationalists intervened the heterogeneous population and how they destroyed the historical region in order to make the modern nation states.It also talks about how the Yong Turk use various form of nationalist population policies and incorporate them into the Turkish Nation state.

In order to study the reform in the new Republic of Turkey, I believe it is important to study the National Movement led by the Yong Turks starting from the Ottoman Empire period. What are the background behind the movement and what are the reason behind the movement. This book can help us better understand the background history of the national movement and how it is affecting the reformation of Turkey until 1950.
