Chongqing/Urban planning map for 1981-2000
In 1983, the State Council approved the Urban Planning Proposal from 1981-2000 in Chongqing. Which firstly established the multinuclear urban organization for Chongqing: the city was divided into downtown core and other fourteen districts, within which the balance of working and living zones was detailed designed as a self-sufficient functional unit. Equipped with adequate infrastructure and public service facilities, each district could meet most of the daily needs from the residents, who could complete their working and living activities without much transporting. Which means less pollution and fewer traffic congestion.
The separation of the districts followed the topographic features of the city. The green spaces, rivers and other unconstructive zones were arranged between the districts. Which on the one hand, contributed to better microclimate environment, and on the other, controlled the scale of each districts to avoid over-scale urban problems. The population of each district would range from 55,000 to 230,000.
