The two photographs provide a dramatic illustration and comparison of the two cities with different urban development directions. Both are important cities in Japan but Kyoto preserves its traditional layout while Tokyo has lost most of its traditional architecture and evolved into a conglomerate of constructed high-rise buildings brought by the rapid economic bloom.
