gazetteer

J.M.Campbell Ed. (1879) Gazetteer of the Bombay Presidency, Volume IV: Ahmedabad. Bombay: Government Central Press.

By an objective description, this government Gazetteer has introduced the short period from 1850 to 1879 of Ahmedabad with the support of research data and historical evidence. The introduction has covered different aspects ranging from agriculture to its trade manufacture. A lot of detailed description of the influence of the BB & CI railway on the city can be found in this book, for example, the roads that were built to connect the old wall city and the railway station are mentioned with their length data. This book is useful in the study of the urban network of Ahmedabad after railway insertion. It is believed to be a highly accurate and objective material due to its publishing time which is close to the introduction of railway in 1864.
