Taipei (1996-2006)/ Community Environment Remodelling Scheme: Historical Document (Current State of Yong Kang Park)
Yong Kang Park Pedestrian Lane Referendum took place in 1995 and was a direct event leading to the initiative of Community Environment Remodelling Scheme.
In the original Yong Kang Park development proposal by the government, the Yong Kang Street was to be broadened and 59 old trees would be removed to resolve the increased traffic volume brought by the Xinyi planned Area development. Local residents voluntarily organized a referendum to decide the use of the park in which over 80% agreed to preserve the trees. Taipei government respected the result and abandoned the original plan.
