The Atomic City: Military Tourism and Urban Identity in Postwar Hiroshima

The paper explains military tourism as a tool to transform Hiroshima from an enemy to a trusted ally and a democratic “peace nation” from the Americans’ perspective.  It makes references to various American parties such as local American commanders and members of the United States Armed Force, and illustrates how the urban identity of peace of Hiroshima was influenced by the Americans.
