Arranged chronologically, the book also helps readers to understand its political, social, economic and physical development of the nation from the 60s to the 90s in terms of architecture. Thus, it helps readers to recognize the evolution of modernism in relation to its political and socio-economic background.
By tracing back to the development in 1960 when the Singapore Institute of Architects was set up, ths book purposefully capturing the milestones of architectural endeavors and achievements, as well as to reflect on the education that went on behind the scene in the cultivation of architects in Singapore.
It features a lot of buildings and built environments which have historical value, with architectural drawings, and features writers’ views and analysis of the built history.
