Book – Urban Planning in Singapore : The Transformation of a City

Singapore Institute of Architects. Contemporary Singapore Architecture. Singapore: Singapore Institute of Architects, 1998.

This book included the general history of Singapore from the early stage on the banks of Singapore River, to the colonial period, and to the liberation of Singapore. It includes the details of a mixed stage of urban planning, for instance, the policy of public housing before and after the war, the green vision, the industrialization and establishment of CBD zones. It covered a lot of historical master plan and photos that gave a glimpse of the old Singapore. By doing so, it gave an insightful comparison between the old ruling party SIT and the new ruling party PAP — the advantages and disadvantages in policies in different stages of development.
