Meiji industrial history: 明治工業史

From the end of the shogunate to the Meiji era, Japan absorbed western technology and knowledge extensively and realized industrialization with a rare speed in only about 50 years.

This book describes the development of modern industries in various aspects that took place during the Meiji period, including electricity, shipbuilding, civil engineering, hydropower, etc. It also includes an introduction to the Like Biwa Canal and its impact on hydropower generation.
