Xi’an (1995-2005) [Historical Document] Architectural Heritage Regulations Within City Plans

This publication by the Xi’an government in 1993 demonstrated the top-down approach of heritage management with extreme detail, although the intent was to guarantee a very controlled city image, it failed to respect the authenticity of the history by not having any leeway for a more diverse development for heritage structures.

It also highlights how Xi’an put in so much weight into transforming and maintaining the city entirely based on “history”, which is a tool used to boost tourism and economy.
